Gender Bias in Algerian Job Recommendations Targeted by New Project

August 3, 2024 – A new initiative has been launched to address gender bias in AI-powered job recommender systems in Algeria. The project aims to gather evidence of bias, engage developers, and facilitate multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote fair and inclusive job recommendations.

The key activities of the project include:

Surveys and Data Analysis: Researchers will collect data and analyze evidence of gender bias in existing job recommendation algorithms used in Algeria.

Developer Workshops: Over 50 developers have been selected to participate in online workshops focused on building skills and capacity for developing unbiased AI systems.

Stakeholder Engagement: Civil society forums and meetings with the Higher Council of Youth will be held to bring together diverse perspectives and develop solutions.

Promoting Equitable Recommendations: The ultimate goal is to ensure job recommendation systems in Algeria expand opportunities equally for women and men, rather than perpetuating gender gaps.

“By combining research, training, and multi-stakeholder engagement, we hope to make significant strides towards gender-inclusive AI in Algeria’s job market,” said the project lead.

The initiative is an important step in addressing systemic biases and ensuring women have equal access to career opportunities in the country. Organizers plan to provide regular updates as the project progresses.
