In a groundbreaking initiative to empower youth and address critical climate issues, the “Youth For Climate Peace” program has been launched in Kano, Nigeria. This project aims to educate and inspire young people to develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.

The program, scheduled to commence on August 17, 2024 in Kofar Kabuga, Kano, is specifically targeted towards vulnerable groups in the Kano suburbs. It seeks to raise awareness on climate change challenges such as global warming, flooding, and drought, while also promoting environmental conservation, recycling, and community engagement.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the youth of Kano to make their voices heard and play a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future for their community,” said the program coordinator, Amina Suleiman. “We’re excited to see the creative and impactful solutions that will emerge from this competition.”

The competition is a collaborative effort, bringing together local stakeholders and experts to support and guide the participants throughout the process. Applicants will be challenged to design projects that not only address environmental concerns, but also inspire proactive measures, foster peace, and encourage intercultural tolerance.

“Climate change is a global issue that requires local action,” added Suleiman. “By empowering the youth of Kano, we hope to ignite a spark of change that will ripple throughout the community and beyond.”
